Mounu is situated in the south of the Vava'u Archipelago. Mounu is the southern most inhabited island in the Vava'u group. A 6.5 acre coral attol fringed with white coral sands surrounded by spectacular coral reefs.



Mounu has three superior private fales (units) each situated on the waters edge providing stunning views of the surrounding islands and reefs.

The architecture of the units is a modern version of the Tongan fale (house) combining coconut pole structure with a shingle roof.

Each fales offers the choice of double or twin beds, toilet, hot shower and private sun deck.


The reef around Mounu is bubbling with fish life and there are some pretty patches of coral. We have snorkelling equipment available in most sizes, free of charge. We also offer Sea Kayaks for use. The closest island to Mounu, Ovalau, is deserted and an easy 15 minute kayak ride. We will happily to pack your lunch so that you can head off to your own deserted island for the day. Diving is a must with amazing coral reefs and spectacular drop offs. If you are a first time diver we can arrange for you to sit a Resort Divers Course. We use the Beluga Diving company in Vava'u.

The warm waters surrounding Vava'u make ideal calfing and mating grounds for the magnificent Humpback Whale. The Southern Humpback Whale migrates to Tonga from Antartica, a journey of 6000 miles. From the month of July through to November the whales can been seen and heard frollocking. Whale Watch Vava'u has two capable vessels available for charter, so you can get up close and personal with them.
